Artist Spotlight: Renata Rodrigues

Artist Renata Rodrigues
Tell us about yourself and describe your art.
I am a brazilian born multimedia artist graduated with a degree in Graphic Design. My influences are the contemporary life and the associations of the subconscious mind. I am best known for using charcoal on wood and incorporating seashell flowers in my art.

What is your style and preferred medium?
It changes. I have phases.

Talk about your creative process of a typical piece.
Something happens that sparks an idea for a piece, but I think about it for a long time till it actually comes out. Usually once all the thinking it’s done, the execution goes pretty fast, but not smoothly, as I am not big on sketching and I am always trying new methods.

What projects are you working on now?
Right now I am working on a mixed media piece, a second mask for the masquerade Gala and a design and accessories for the body paint competition. All for Continuum 2018.

Are you working on a series?
I am working on the 5th piece out of 5 of a mixed media series for Continuum 2018.

What inspires you to create?
Whatever is going on in my life at the time and the associations my subconscious mind makes of it. I like to contemplate about human feelings and behavior.

When/where can we see your art in January?
At the moment you can view my art at Continuum 2018 in City Place WPB, Lot23 Studio in Northwood Village, and The Brewhouse Gallery in Lake Park.

What are your plans for 2018?
Keep having fun making art, always trying new materials and techniques. Learn more about art and teach what I already learned to kids in after school programs. And keep teaching private swim lessons around West Palm which I also love.

What did you achieve in 2017?
I am happy doing what I do. Always learning. Life is amazing.

Do you teach? Where?
I teach private swim lessons around West Palm and I will start teaching art in after school programs this year.

As an artist what is your most essential tool? Why?
My curiosity. I always want to learn new things.

Recommend a spot for art-goers.
Lot23 Studio/Gallery in Northwood Village. The Brewhouse Gallery and Kelsey Theater in Lake Park. Cafe Centro and Harold’s Coffee Lounge in Northwood Village. Northwood Village in general has lots of great restaurants.

Additional Comments?
In my opinion it’s a blessing to be an artist and I am so thankful to have been given the skills to be one.
